Contributors get 65% of the selling price—we get whatever’s left after we pay credit card fees and all that stuff. We create a webpage for each contributor and add any works they upload to it. Pages dedicated to each work are also placed in the appropriate categories (orchestral, electronic, etc.). And we maintain these pages and manage your account until you don't want to sell with us anymore or until the world ends, whichever comes first. When you upload something with us, you should expect to see it up on the site within a week—often sooner.
We pay contributors at the end of each quarter by paper check. Payments are made on the 15th of the first month following each quarter. (Payments for sales made in January to March are mailed on April 15.) Checks are not mailed if the payment amount does not exceed $10.
We're not limited to just scores or recordings. We're interested in distributing anything new music related that's produced by the new music community. If it's related to new art music and can be transmitted electronically, you can sell it here. You can sell (or give away) scores, recordings, scholarly papers, dissertations, extended technique fonts for Finale, or biographies—you name it.
It's non-exclusive. You can sell your work on your website or at recitals or concerts. All we ask is that you sell it for more (even if it's just a penny) than you sell it here. We also ask that you not enter into any contracts with anyone else that would violate the agreement you have with us. For instance, if you publish a score you're selling on our website, and the publisher wants exclusive rights to sell the work, that would cause some legal problems for us and you.
And about that, there's no obligation. If you find an option that will be more advantageous for you, let us know, and we can take your work off the site. All we ask is that you give us 30 days notice. There's no fees, no hassles; we just do what you ask.
If you’re concerned about the quality of works being sold next to yours, uploaded music is reviewed for professionalism and content appropriate to new art music. If any corrections need to be made, we let the contributor know, give a chance to correct them, and then they upload it again. Any necessary corrections are the only reason for a delay in publishing something to the site.
Printing is an option we don’t currently have, but we're exploring third party print on demand options. Print on demand would allow us to print your works when they're ordered at a cost-effective price. So if someone wanted a nice hard copy of your work, they could get it—without paying an arm and a leg. However, right now we only offer digital distribution. You buy it; you download it instantly. This no overhead approach is exactly what allows us to return a higher profit margin to you and sell works to more people for less rather than less people for more. The more people you can expose your work to, the better. And right now, people (and institutions) are looking to pay less, not more. So help facilitate music visibility and affordability in the new music community. Get your music out there!
